These hangover cures are sure fire ways to beat that morning after uuughhhhh….
1. Water: If the week-end had you floating in more ways than one; believe it or not Water may get you going again. Alcohol is a natural diuretic, which means you lost a lot of water after your night of drinking; which means your body is going to have a tough time getting rid of the toxins that accompanied those apple martinis! Gulping down gallons of water won’t cure your hangover but, it will rehydrate and possibly fill up some of what you lost…while living the good life!
2. Sweat It Out: If your body can handle it, pick yourself up, get out of bed and lace up your sneakers. Exercise increases circulation and will help you dump the toxins …that made you intoxicated to start with!
3. Have Sex…now that’s a remedy! Although you may not be gazing through starry eyes, and your partner may not be look as hot as last night, the best help for your hangover may very well be lying right next to you. Sex releases oxytocin, which increases your threshold for pain, and you’ll burn off a few of last night’s liquid calories. Skeptical? This could be the most enjoyable cure!
4. Eat Healthy: We know your always suppose to eat healthy, but a visit to the Mc or Dunkin you know who, will do no more than have you slumping under your desk. Chow down a banana to increase your low post-alcohol potassium level. Plus the banana known as the “world’s perfect food” contains a natural antacid to fight nausea, as well as magnesium to relax blood vessels and ease a headache.
5. Sleep It Off: Limit hangover-inducing activities to Friday and Saturday nights, so you have Sunday to sleep off your post-party pain. If holiday parties or impromptu celebrations land on a work night… Sometimes calling in sick is better for your career than loosing it in the office rest-room!
6. Wait It Out: Time is the only true cure for a hangover …and that is what it’s going to take for the alcohol to leave your body. Although some weekend warriors swear by their favorite home remedy…it may be just wishful thinking!
7. More alcohol: Okay, so the thought of drinking anything more is enough to literally turn you green. However, just a tad bit is enough to help you stabilize yourself just enough to get some more fluids and food in you. Drink just a little bit and then make the switch to more respectable liquids.
8. Almonds: This remedy is by way of the American Indians and according to their traditions, eating six almonds (raw) before you start drinking is enough to keep you from getting rip roaring drunk. We’ve never tested this one out, so we can’t say for sure that it works!
9. Sports drinks: This one makes sense and actually works; we know because we’ve done it. Drink some Gatorade or Powerade to replenish the electrolytes in your system and rehydrate your body. After all, being dehydrated is part of why you feel so crummy after a night of partying.
10. Banana shake: This one is interesting because who knew bananas had such a useful purpose?! Sweeten it with honey when you wake up with a very loudly pounding head. Bananas are great because they, too, are high in electrolytes as well as magnesium and potassium. The honey, meanwhile, will help build back up your blood sugar and the milk will sooth your stomach.
11. Activated charcoal: This tastes absolutely disgusting and if your stomach is at all queasy, this might not be the best remedy for you. Put on tablet of activated charcoal into whatever you are drinking. You can get these at convenience stores. The charcoal takes in any of the impurities found in the alcohol, eliminating the very things causing the hangover. However, it should also be noted that the charcoal also absorbs the nutrients too, so this shouldn’t be a common remedy.
12. Coke: Not the drug, but the soda. The carbonation will ease your nausea, the liquid will hydrate you and the sugar and caffeine will boost your energy level. However, this only lasts for long enough for you to eat and get some real liquids in you.
13. Vitamin C: This is one of the best remedies available, but be sure not to take too much. It stimulates the liver; take 2-10 grams daily. Take 1,000 mg per hour, if you are taking it for a hangover remedy.
14. Ginger: This one is popular in Asia. You can take it in the form of ginger tea or 500 mg capsules every few hours. The ginger will help soothe your stomach and help you feel well enough to eat something.
15. Cactus: This might sound strange, but cactus is supposed to be good for curing nausea and dry mouth, at least that’s what the researchers at Tulane University as well as the University of California in San Francisco. The plant reduces inflammation, at least supposedly; however, this might be one to try if nothing else is working.
16. Thyme: Ok, this one may look weak, but trust us, it will make you feel better. The best method to use thyme is via a tea, made with crushed thyme leaves and mixed with super hot water. Not only will the tea be soothing and relaxing, but it will also tame your tummy so that you can eat something more substantial.
